Christmas in Jordan - Next Stop on our Christmas World Tour

Did you know that Jordan has some of the oldest Christian communities in the world? Officially known at the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and located in western Asia, Jordan has been home to Christian populations since the 1st century AD. Over a quarter of a million Christian live in Jordan, the majority of whom are members of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Jordan is part of the Holy Land and is home to many biblical sites - Al-Maghtas on the East Bank of the Jordan river where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, Mount Nebo where Moses was able to look upon the promised land, Machaerus where John the Baptist was executed, and several other sites of biblical signifigance.

Amman, the capital of Jordan, is an especially festive area during the Christmas season with Christmas village displays and historical tours from Jordan to Bethlehem. Christmas in Jordan is a public holiday observed by the whole country.

Our gorgeous Jordanian Nativity Scene is made by Christian artisans in Jordan. It is beautifully hand-carved from locally sourced olive wood, and several of the animals are adorned with locally made textiles.
