Thailand and the Beauty of Thai Metalwork
The next stop on our virtual world tour: Thailand. We have been offering Fair Trade nativity scenes from Thailand for many years now, and they continue to get noticed for their lustrous metalwork and creative designs.
Did you know, the area of Thailand has been creating metal works of bronze since 2500 BC. Jewelry and weaponry was created in what is now northern Thailand, and that part of the world is considered to be one of the earliest known bronze cultures.
The Ban Chiang region of Thailand is renowned as a historical archeological site and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Surely this rich heritage of bronze and metalwork inspire the fair trade artists in Thailand who make these beautiful Thai nativity scenes.
Thailand also has a rich history of glass bead work and used glass beadwork not only for funeral items but also in jewelry and trading.
One of our favorite details on this nativity scene shown above - the star of Bethlehem and the metalwork and beads swirling above the holy family. So special!
We hope you are enjoying our virtual world tour! Be well. :)
