The Fontanini Nativity story of Abraham: Abraham was a shy and solitary child who carried his loneliness well into adulthood. Interaction with others was difficult for him, and he could not bear to harm living things - a job as a shopkeeper, or a butcher was impossible. He finally found a position as a gatekeeper, where his only duty was to count the fish the fishermen brought into the city each day. A dull job, and lonely, but nevertheless, a job. Abraham left his job one day only to find at very thin and frightened dog walking behind him. The dog cowed in fear when Abraham offered his hand, but his hunger pushed him forward when a bite of food was offered - the dog became less afraid. Abraham called the dog Caleb, and, because of his gentleness and kindness, finally had a companion with whom to share his life.
