The Fontanini Nativity story of Peter: Peter was a young shepherd with a flock of only three sheep, two ewes and a ram. Each spring, he wished for new lambs to arrive to increase his flock, and worried when, year after year, there were none. One evening, as he lay worried about his future, a magnificent angel appeared in the sky, heralding the birth of a New Savior, born in the city of Bethlehem. Peter knew immediately he must see this Child, and made his journey. When he got to the stable to honor this Child, he realized with sorrow that he had no gift to offer - nothing but his favorite lamb. one of only three in his small herd. Nevertheless, he placed the lamb at the foot of the manger. When the Baby Jesus saw the fuzzy lamb, he gazed up at Peter's face and smiled, and the cares and concerns in Peter's mind dissolved. He knew the Lord would provide for him.
