Description
Hand-made in the USA, the Companions Collection nativity features hand cast bonded marble figures created by designer Linda McDonald. Add to your Companions Collection with Zechariah, husband of Elizabeth. Introduced to the Hestia Companions Collection nativity in 2009, and retired in 2018.
Biblically significant for the Canticle of Zechariah, Zechariah and Elizabeth became parents at a very old age. Their son, John the Baptist would make known the message of the coming of the Lord.
From the Hestia Companions Nativity story card: Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth, cousin of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, were still childless and advanced in years when the Angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah, announcing that Elizabeth would bear a child who would be the forerunner of the Messiah. The baby was to be named John. Zechariah was a very holy man, but expressed doubt at the angel's announcement, and was struck dumb. Once the baby was born and friends and neighbors inquired as to the baby's name since it was the custom to name a boy after his father, Zechariah, still unable to speak, wrote "John" on a writing tablet. At this point, he regained his ability to speak. Zechariah accompanies his apprehensive wife, Elizabeth, to see the Christ child. Their baby will grow up to be John the Baptist, a holy prophet and martyr like his father. Elizabeth and Zechariah are often referred to as examples of the virtue of patience in a good marriage. The Christmas season is beautifully portrayed in this heirloom quality nativity set. Carefully chosen fabrics are applied to the bonded marble sculptures to add texture and an authentic first century appearance. Each year artist Linda MacDonald adds a new piece and retires an old one, and collectors are building value as they enjoy the beauty of this Christmas Nativity scene.
