Description
Maasai nativity scene handmade in Nairobi, Kenya. Figures are crafted from wire, banana fiber and cloth. The Maasai people are an ethnic group in Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania and their culture is reflected in this Maasai nativity scene. Red checked patterns are typical in Maasai clothing and the traditional word for the colorful fabric clothing is Shúkà.
10 figures include the holy family, three wisemen, camel (which we particularly love) shepherd and two sheep. Banana fiber stable / storage box is also included.
Joseph stands 6 inches tall. The banana fiber box measures 9.5 inches x 9.5 inches when closed and is used for both the nativity's stable and also storage when not on display.
This Maasai nativity comes to us through a fair trade organization which works directly with artisans and allows them to improve their lives by the use of their skills.
