Description
Felted sheep's wool is used to create this charming nativity scene from the central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan. A detail we particularly like is the embroidery and beadwork on the yurt and angels.
This Kyrgyzstan nativity scene includes the holy family, wisemen, shepherd and a yurt manger with 2 angels. A yurt is a portable tent traditionally used in Kyrgyzstan.
The tallest king stands 6 inches high. Some tips for displaying this nativity scene - the inside of the yurt is hollow for storing the figures, however we find it looks best for displaying if you fill the yurt with crumpled paper or fabric to give the yurt a fuller shape. Additionally, the felt pieces are hollow at the bottom (like finger puppets). We found they display better if you place something under the pieces for support (again like crumpled paper).
This lovely and unique felt Nativity comes to us through a fair trade organization which places people first, not profits.
The yurt measures approximately 7.5 inches in diameter and 10.5 inches tall. It opens up for storing the figures.
