Description
Peruvian nativity artists are inspired to show the birth of Jesus as being welcomed throughout the world. This Basque nativity scene represents the holy family wearing traditional Basque clothing and traditional Basque espadrilles and a Ezpeletako biperra (the Espalette pepper, a culinary icon of Basque) presented as gifts to honor the newborn Jesus. Behind the holy family is the Lauburu, the Basque cross, and Joseph has been presented with a Jai Lai xistera.
The Basque people are an ethnic group who reside in Basque Country located in the Western Pyrenees mountains in Europe.
