Artists are inspired to recreate the nativity story using imagery from every culture and time-period. This amazing nativity scene is made in the style of the Chancay culture. The Chancay lived about 1000 to 1470 BC and were prolific ceramic and textile artisans.
This nativity scene is designed in the style of cuchimilco figures made by the Chancay peoples. Cuchimilco were often found in tombs of Chancay nobility and archeologists believe they represented guardian figures or family members. The Chancay lived in what is modern day Peru.

Chancay cuchimilco nativity scene is handmade from ceramic, handpainted, and measures about 5 inches tall. The infant Jesus can be removed from the manger.

Very beautiful Nativity
Years ago I bought this set for my nativity-collecting mother. She loved it. When she died we decided to re-home most of her large nativity set collection. I kept this one for myself because it is beautifully made and so unusual.
