Description
The tulip is a traditional motif in Turkish art and blue tulips decorate this beautiful nativity scene from Turkey. Did you know in the 16th century, the Dutch brought tulip bulbs to Holland from Turkey? The name tulip is derived from the Turkish word tulbend (or turban). Tulips in Turkey are a symbol of peace and prosperity.
Our Turkish nativity scene features three fritware figures and a Turkish rug. These nativity figures are handcrafted in Turkey using methods and techniques from the 14th to 16th century Iznik pottery tradition of the Ottoman Empire.
Please note: This item is hand made in Turkey. Slight variations may occur from that which is pictured. The Turkish made mini rug may vary as well.
Fritware is a pottery technique incorporating frit (ground glass), 85-90% ground quartz and a small amount of clay. When fired at high temperatures, the frit melts to bind the quartz together. The figures are then handpainted in traditional Turkish designs. The rug is machine woven in Turkey.

Turkish Nativity Figures
Item arrived quickly and absolutely stunning. We spent 2 weeks in Turkiye and even went to a pottery factory in Cappadocia and never saw any nativity items. I found a Turkish set made in Turkiye from YonderStar and it was perfect!
